Al, Si, P, S, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Nb, Mo and W determination in carbon steel

Al, Si, P, S, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Nb, Mo and W determination in carbon steel

The test method specifies mass content determination of Al (Aluminum), Si (Silicon),  P (Phosphorus), S (Sulfur), Ti (Titanium), V (Vanadium), Cr (Chromium), Mn (Manganese), Co (Cobalt), Ni (Nickel), Co (Copper), Nb (Niobium), Mo (Molybdenum) and W (Tungsten)  in carbon steel by X-ray fluorescence method with "SPECTROSCAN MAKC" spectrometer.

The sample for analysis is made as a 40 mm diameter disk up to 20 mm thick with flat surface. The surface roughness is to be better than 50 mm.
If there is not enough sample material, the disk can be made 20 mm diameter 10 mm thick, or as a sample with one flat surface, which is within the specified above dimensions.
No further sample preparation is required. The sample is placed into a sample cartridge and then into spectrometer. Analysis is fulfilled automatically with a chosen program.
Dependent on the purpose of analysis the test method provides determination of one or several elements.
The specified concentration range for element determination in carbon steel is given in the table:

ElementElement mass content, %
Al0,05 – 1,0
Si0,05 – 2,0
P0,005 – 0,05
S0,005 - 0,015
Ti0,010 – 0,2
V0,010 - 1,0
Cr0,05 - 3,0
Mn0,05 - 1,0
Co0,05 - 0,5
Ni0,05 - 4,5
Cu0,010 - 1,2
Nb0,010 - 0,2
Mo0,05 - 1,0
